Evil Guests by Mike Motz
Evil Guests by Mike Motz
a subversive horror comedy

Evil Guests is one of my free short comic scripts for any artist to draw, specifically the one I wrote for April 2024. As a big fan of horror, this script was mostly influenced by such movies as The Evil Dead or Cabin in the Woods, as well as a board game called Monster Slaughter, which is basically an unofficial board game version of Cabin in the Woods. It's a really fun game that I'd recommend to any horror fan.
In Monster Slaughter, you don't play as teenagers defending themselves against evil monsters, but as the monsters themselves that try to slaughter as many of the annoying youngsters in a remote cabin as possible. And it was this subversive idea that made me think: "in what other ways could this horror trope be subverted?", which eventually inspired me to write Evil Guests.
In May 2025, an artist named Mike Motz contacted me to let me know that he adapted Evil Guests into a short comic – which he at the same time also sent to me. What was especially exciting about that was that Mike is actually a professional artist that, in the span of 20 years, has illustrated 140 children's books and published many others. So I was really honored that Mike liked my script so much that he chose to draw it.
So before reading the short comic below, be sure to also check out Mike's Instagram profile. And if you're not yet subscribed to my newsletter, please consider that, too. Evil Guests is actually not the only script of mine that Mike has adapted, and I will be sharing the others in the following weeks. So if you'd like to be notified when I do, make sure you subscribe!
